Digitorectal examination and anoscopy

Digitorectal examination

Digitorectal examination is performed so that the patient lies on his left side with his legs curled and his body drawn. The doctor visually examines the anal region and determines if there are external hemorrhoids or other diseases. The doctor then inserts a finger into the final part of the colon. The review takes 5-10 seconds.

Anoscopy is an examination that is performed immediately after the digital rectal examination. The patient remains in the same position, and a hollow tube about 10 cm long is used for visual inspection of the anal canal mucosa (the final part of the colon). The examination is a little uncomfortable, painless and lasts about 15 seconds.
